Coaching Rule Change Adopted
11 January 2017
In late 2016, the ITTF Regulation governing advice given by coaches to players during matches was changed.
The new Regulation applies to matches conducted by and on behalf of National Governing Bodies, including in the case of Table Tennis Ireland.
The Board of Table Tennis Ireland has now formally adopted this rule change, and it will now be in affect for all TTI competitions, starting with this weekends Munster Junior Open. It will not apply to local league matches, unless the league has adopted the ITTF regulation itself.
The ITTF has produced a guidance document to help players, coaches and officials to better understand the Regulation. This document can be downloaded below and includes a link to FAQs on the ITTF website.
The new Regulation is part of a wider Regulation governing advice during matches, a complete version of which is also attached below, with the relevant paragraph underlined.
We are urging all coaches/players/officials to study these documents in order to be fully aware of the new rule changes in order to avoid any confusion at upcoming events.
